Clays, minerals, layered silicates, phosphates and double hydroxides – multi-nuclear NMR studies

Multi-nuclear ssNMR studies can reveal molecular level structural details of various materials that possess layered architecture. Solid-state ²⁷Al NMR data involving 1D MAS and 2D MQMAS, can demonstrate the modification of the Al^IV/Al^VI ratio according to the variations in synthesis conditions of saponite clays. Organic intercalation and conformational (gauche to trans) changes of interlayer structure in synthetic clays can be studied by ¹H and ¹³C MAS NMR spectroscopy.
