Clays, minerals, layered silicates, phosphates and double hydroxides – multi-nuclear NMR studies

Multi-nuclear ssNMR studies can reveal molecular level structural details of various materials that possess layered architecture. Solid-state 27Al NMR data involving 1D MAS and 2D MQMAS, can demonstrate the modification of the AlIV/AlVI ratio according to the variations in synthesis conditions of saponite clays. Organic intercalation and conformational (gauche to trans) changes of interlayer structure in synthetic clays can be studied by 1H and 13C MAS NMR spectroscopy.
