Relaxation measurements (T1, T2, TCH, T1rho)

T1, T2, and T1rho relaxation monitor longitudinal relaxation, transverse relaxation and longitudinal relaxation in the rotating frame, respectively. T1 measurements are particularly useful for the study of fast timescale dynamics and in the solid state allow for the measurement of local structural fluctuations and can provide information on both geometry and timescale of motion. The relaxation times of solid state signals are very dependent on the degree of periodicity in the sample as amorphous samples usually relax faster than crystalline samples.
